Happy Summer! For all of you trusting us to help feed your family, we thank you for your support. We have plenty of hogs available right now and will continue to have them through the fall. We encourage you to stock your freezers with pork now as the supply is plentiful!
We are blessed with abundant grass and rain this season and our beef are in lush, almost jungle-like stands of grass. The cow herd is doing wonders at healing the land! We are working hard to protect water, build soil and sequester carbon in order to fulfill our mission of saving our common home…planet Earth. See more about this on the Ted Talk with Alan Savory.
We are making changes in the way that we distribute the final product of our holistic land healing project. We are attempting to find the best, most affordable way to pass the healing wonders of what the beef are doing with the land, to the humans. We are moving towards a fall harvest ONLY of our beeves to capture the nutrition of the complete, full growing season. This will allow us to focus on grazing during the growing season, shut down the big freezers during the hot summer, and will allow us to work in sync with nature.
We are adjusting our management to be more in sync with nature which will reduce stress on many levels: to the animals AND the caretakers. We are reducing our store hours to be open on Saturdays only, 10am – 2pm. Cowpooling is the best way to get Mountain Run Farm beef. Finding families to work together and get on the list for a whole cow in the fall is the most efficient way to fill your freezers with delicious, nutritious beef (halves, quarters, and twelfths are available as well).
As you may know, commodity beef prices have soared through the roof and are not expected to stop rising. In many cases, this puts us selling our SPECIALTY beef at below market value. We are updating our prices to meet the marketplace effective immediately. The market has changed so rapidly, we have no choice but to raise prices even to those already signed up and waiting on the cowpooling list. We will be offering beef to cowpoolers in the fall of this year, based on carcass weight (500 pound average), for $4/lb for a whole, $5 for a half, $6 for a quarter, and $7 for a twelfth. These are the words of some of our mentors on the subject of raising beef prices to market value.
Rest assured, you are still saving a passel of money and doing your family a huge service by supporting Mountain Run Farm. Our full intent on raising our food animals from birth is to guide the process from start to finish by instilling the nutrient density and medicinal properties of the land into your food. Thereby passing on intelligence, health and longevity to your family. Food of this quality has the capabilities of healing you physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
How do you get our beef? Send us a message to stake your claim. Know that you will be put on a list, first come, first served. No deposit necessary. We will contact you a couple of weeks before your butchering appointment to confirm your order. Hopefully, you can be patient and understanding as we raise your animal with patience and understanding! In the meantime, visit our store on Saturdays 10am – 2pm for a retail selection of beef and pork as well as other products from local farms: chickens, eggs, and locally made goods.
The farm will continue to host exciting educational events for the whole family (like the monthly Land and Table potlucks). Stay tuned to MRF in your favorite way: Facebook, our blog, or updates via our email newsletter. Also, mark your calendars for the 5th annual Mountain Run Jam in September. And, please pass the word to others of like mind who are beginning to realize the deep connection our food and the way that it is raised, has with our health and the health of our planet.
The only thing constant in nature is change. Thank you for your support!
