We have hogs finished and ready for the freezer. Now is the time to reach out and get your year’s supply of pasture-raised pork. Born and raised on our farm for generations, our Durocs are reared outside with great care, getting non-GMO, VA. grown feed on the side. We’ve done some Cowboy Math to help you decide where to spend your food money.
Here is the bottom line:
Last week several of our hogs dressed out at 220lb carcass weight. We charge $3.25/lb. of carcass weight. This hog costs $715 to MRF, then you pay for custom butchering, about $160. This will get the meat cut and packaged any way you wish for $876 total.
So, the take home meat averaged 135lb. This means you are paying $6.49 per pound of pork in your freezer – ALL the cuts, rooter to the tooter. If you were to buy the pork from us at retail prices from our farm store , this whole hog would cost you over $1000. Not to mention saving trips to town or the farm by having your freezer stocked. You are welcome to split your hog with friends or family, up to four ways, costing about $219 per family. And remember, this is nutrient dense meat with healing properties, virtually priceless.
Let us know by email to the website if you want to fill the freezer. We are ready to serve you with just a couple week turnover.
You may come to the farm to inspect the animals for yourself if you’d like. Try to get that option at Fresh Market! Act now, Ben
